Tarmac support The Weir Archer Academy

As part of Tarmac’s Employee Development Programme, we have tasked to “Review and recommend how we can reduce our use of plastics on Tarmac Operations and in Offices” and as part of this project we have organised a fundraiser for the Weir Archer Academy – Tarmac have supported this charity since 2020 and their aim is to help people with disabilities to realise their potential within sports.
The Weir Archer Academy was founded over 10 years ago by David Weir, CBE and Jenny Archer. They have developed a new way of coaching and training which has resulted in the ‘WeirWolf’, achieving outstanding wheelchair athletics results. David and Jenny now want to pass on their knowledge, experience, and enjoyment of the benefits of sport to the next generation of disabled people. Their ambition is to work with other top class disability coaches and support staff to deliver their unique and innovative method, which harnesses the best on offer to as many disabled athletes as possible, from social members to elite athletes.
With all of this in mind, they have completed a 479-mile stationary bike cycle at the Hillhead Quarry Exhibition over the course of 3 days (21st June – 23rd June). They deliberately chose this distance as it is the distance from Hillhead Quarry to Paris which is where the 2024 Paralympics is due to be held.
