FLG Services launches engineering apprenticeship scheme

A-Plant’s lifting and safety equipment division, FLG Services, has launched its very first engineering apprenticeship programme, and the first eight recruits have been selected.

The apprentices are the latest addition to FLG Services’ talent pipeline and demonstrate the company’s commitment to nurturing the next generation.

The Mechanical Engineering apprentices will develop core skills through practical hands-on learning and internal training at FLG Services’ depots in Glasgow, Gateshead, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester, Oldbury, Ipswich and Rainham as well as its preferred suppliers and study core modules organised by Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire.

FLG Services’ inaugural engineering apprenticeship scheme features comprehensive training with additional courses provided through the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA). Apprentices will be working towards obtaining their ‘TEAM’ card at the end of the three and a half year period.

Tony Longmire, District Director at FLG Services, said: “It’s a really exciting time here at FLG Services as we invest in the next generation with our inaugural Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship.

“These apprentices are a welcome investment to the lifting and safety equipment sector and join FLG Services as it strives to meet the increasing needs and demands of the construction, petrochemical, nuclear and engineering industries.

“The programme will support individuals both professionally and personally, helping them achieve their ambitions and maximise their potential.”

FLG Services also employs a customer service apprentice, Hannah Maddocks who is based at the Liverpool depot. She plays a vital role in the depot, handling all customer enquiries and providing expert technical knowledge.

Currently in her second year, she has developed the appropriate skills and knowledge to become a successful Hire Controller with FLG Services.

A-Plant currently employs 150 apprentices across its 3,600-strong workforce and is the only major hire company to be featured in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer List.
