Ritchie Bros UK Gears Up for 2024 with February 14th online auction

After a very successful 2023, Ritchie Bros UK, the leading global auctioneer of used equipment, is getting ready to host its first of eight online auctions of 2024 on February 14th.  Looking back at the wins of 2023 and planning for 2024, we spoke with Rupert Craven, UK and Ireland Sales Director. The company expects some changes in the equipment market, demanding more discussion and support between equipment owners and Ritchie Bros.

More than 1,350 items will be sold through Ritchie Bros.’ timed auction on February 14th. The timed auctions system is convenient for local bidders but also for all bidders around the world. Currently listed on the online auction inventory are 140+ boom lifts, 70+ telescopic forklifts, and 40+ mini excavators. Next to compact machinery, the inventory includes a diverse range of construction & industrial equipment, such as articulated dump trucks, crawler excavators, compactors and more.

The February 14th online auction inventory includes:

  • 5x 2019 Hitachi ZX130LCN-6 Excavators
  • 2x 2019 Volvo A30G Articulated Dump Trucks
  • 9x 2014-2019 JCB 540-170 Telescopic Forklifts
  • 6x 2013-2018 Genie Z45/25J Boom Lifts.

To participate in the online auction, customers can register for free on the Ritchie Bros. website, where they can also have an overview of the items available for purchase. Each item listed on Ritchie Bros. website benefits from a detailed inspection report prepared by the operation team, with photos and videos. As all equipment available are in Maltby, the team is organising viewing days from February 12th to 14th allowing potential customers to come visit and inspect the machines before bidding.

In 2023, 9 online auctions were hosted at the Ritchie Bros UK yard in Maltby. Over 10,500 bidders, coming from 75+ countries, joined these online auctions to win the highest bid. The shift to timed auctions allows bids to be placed 3-5 days prior to the auction date and crucially the auto extend feature that means no one misses out.  Timed auctions have big benefits over traditional live auctions meaning bidders have additional time to organise finances and make informed decisions. This way of buying and selling has enabled Ritchie Bros UK to offer new services and features, making the entire process a better experience for our customers. “This success has been a real team effort with success across all areas and departments within our UK team.” Rupert Craven.

Looking ahead to 2024, Ritchie Bros UK is firmly set on continuing to enhance the customer experience, from growing the team, to ensuring existing operations are adding a valuable element to buyers’ and sellers’ journey. As Rupert Craven expects to see changes in the equipment market, customer service is key to support all Ritchie Bros. UK customers in their needs and demands.

The market is always changing, and we have entered a new phase. One that requires more discussion and advice on what the best solution for is used equipment. This is our key priority – to advise well and grow relationships with the sellers. I foresee more equipment being available from OEMs, but still at very high prices when you consider the return on investment for the owner. This makes buying, using and selling machinery more sensitive and making the right choices even more important.

Rupert Craven, Sales Director, UK & Ireland.
